Mend Kenwood BL490 Blender Exactly

How can i fix Kenwood BL490 Blender ?

What exactly are the black components in series wih the brushes of the motor. They are covered in heat shrink and tied to the field coils. I suspect one of them is faulty because everything else tests ok.
