need to fix hesition in mercedes?

i have a 1983 mecedes 300sd turbo deisel with 68000 origional miles which hesitates when i start up hills from a stopped or parked position. it does not do this when i have reached travel speeds but it will do it occasionally when i am at very low speeds. the vehicle seems fine on level ground or at regular travel speeds. what CAN l DO?
