How to replace a renault megane gearstick mount?

I cannot get my MK1 Megane into reverse as cable attached the lever you lift to get into reverse has snapped. The cable itself cannot just be replaced as the other end is encased in injection moulded plastic. I have managed to get a secondhand unit from a breakers, and wondered whether it was simple enough to replace myself, and if so how ?
