Robert,
I've repaired several of these things, and the most common problem is the one you're having (or had - it's now December, and I see you posted this in May). Most of the time, the problem is with the interlock switch. When you open the player, the switch is in the top right corner - near the hinge. It will be stuck down inside the hole. The player never sees that the screen has been opened, so it doesn't come on (spin). Sometimes you can coax it to come back up by picking at it with something small, like tweezers, or a straight pin. If that doesn't work, you have to take the screws out of the bottom, then very carefully open it up to gain access to the interlock switch from underneath. But be careful, because that switch can fall out.
Hope it helps. Let me know if you get it working, or already got it working and what you did. BTW, you wouldn't happen to know where I can get a remote for these things, do you?
Later,
Mike
