engine man light?

take to a garage and get a diagnostic and they will tell you whats wrong and give you a code (charge normally 25 / 45 quid )and then some 1 will be abe to help you fix it

could be a possible minor sensor fault. rather than mess about trying to find the problem ask a garage to plug the fault finding computer into the car. this will establish the fault.

ive known people to spend days messing about claning sensors & still no better.

Does motor smoke badly,maybe EGR valve,try removing and make sure it is not seized,you didnt say what make or model it was.
