Hi Alan,
Thanks for getting back to me today (30th April). Maybe good news! I managed to remove the bearing by taking it to a local agricultural dealer and using a 100 tonne press (no heat). The bearing went 'bang' at 20 tonnes of pressure, without distorting the aluminium housing. I think I can source the seal at simplybearings.co.uk - go onto their website and then go to oil seals - 3 boxes appear at the top, drop the cursor down and click on '74'; go to next box on the right and put in '100'. The nearest seal available is 74 x 100 x 13. I'm sure a man of your calibre could whittle off 3mm off the rear edge to take it down to 10mm. The price of the seal is £7.99 + £1.50 pp.
The bearing could possibly be obtained from Nationwide Bearing Co Ltd. They cannot source it from the bearing size itself (50x90x36), so I gave them lettering and numbers off the dust seal of the bearing which are: DE1021LA and they told me that the bearing was available (only one supplyer in the UK) at a cost to them of £95 - they would then put their upmark on this price obviously. I would also ask them to ask the supplyer what the acctual size is befor they oder it for you.
when we had the Dyson engineer out last, for the noise of the bearing, wich was(three weeks ago) he said use it untill you can't stand the noise, but we won't be able to come back to it in the future for anthing else, bearing not avalable, I should condem it.
We have now decided to put our money towards a new machine instead of pursuing this any further and so will be selling our Dyson CR01 for parts - everything is in good working order apart from the bearing! I was so looking forward to putting it all back together & getting it going again. Enjoyed stipping it down..
Wishing you the best of luck, would love to hear how you get on . . . .
p.s. Do you need any spare parts?
