My DVD will not reading any Discs. ?

When i put a disc or lens cleaner in, it trys to read, but a messge appears on the screen stating that the disc may not have read back. What could be causing this error?

Video, DVD Players Dvd Reading Disc Cleaner

My understanding is that the reader is dirty and you need a "cleaner DVD" to clean the reader.
