dvd player wont read dvd's. will read and play cd,s?

i have the same problem. actually it could play any cd with low capacity, ie, 700mb. the trouble started only last week when it could not read some dvds with the message 'no disc'. i have cleaned the cds and the lense without any improvement. i hope somebody could help us out.
