Glass falls out of wing mirror casing on Vauxhall Vectra 05?

Same happened with me yesterday with my Astra. First my drivers side fell out and we noticed that the passengers side shacking on the motorway. Pulled over to check it and it just came away in my hand. Luckily I have been able to duct tape them back on till I get to Halfords for a replacement mirror, for about a tenna.
Can believe Vauxhall isnt admitting fault!

This has to be a materials/design fault. Both my Vectra 08 mirror glasses fell off two days ago while the car was in motion. Not quite simultaneously but within two miles of each other! There must be a safety/recall issue here.

hi,my vauxhaul meriva has had both of it's mirrors fall off only months apart,both happened as the doors were shut.One shattered the other that fell off last night stayed in one piece so i'm just deciding whether to super glue or silicone it back on.I wonder how many others this has happened to that haven't posted on here(a lot i imagine!!

hi Nicky123 my passenger side wing mirror on our vectra 2006 fell out last night as my husband banged the door shut. I've stuck the remaining 2 parts back together with masking tape on the back of the mirror and used masking tape around the edges to stick it onto the housing so I can at least see a bit and get to halfords to buy a replacement glass (and a drivers-side mirror too for when that falls out!) Fortunately it's only the mirror, the black backing is still there. Should I use superglue? or something less permanent in case it happens again? Thanks for your great post.

I have also had this problem and I have found that Summit replacement glasses are the excellent solution! Inexpensive compared with vauxhall prices, quality product that you can purchase at every Halfords and good car parts suppliers up and down the country. Summit's experience and knowledge give them the leading edge over other suppliers. For example the trend of Vauxhall mirrors falling off with a slight temperature change for the last 4 years has meant that they have plenty of stock in ready and waiting for when you need it! :)

This problem is VERY common on Vauxhall cars. I get 3 to four customers a week coming in who have had this happen to their car. Yesterday I had 3 customers in under an HOUR! It also happened to my partners car- both came lose the same day, but as I was aware of the issue it I removed the glasses and re-stuck them back on.

Same thing with my 56 reg Vectra Exclusiv now 4.5 years old and driver's door mirror just fell out in my hand as I closed the car door - unbelievable!!
But intending to stick it back on tomorrow with sillicone sealant - thanks to previous poster oilymechanic for sharing this excellent solution!!
Also intend to check passenger side as above posts suggest it's due to drop out next week.

Noticed my 4 year old Vectra passenger side mirror fluttering as I went down the motorway. Stopped and the glass came away in my hand. Attempting to re-glue shortly. Relieved to see that, if the worst comes to the worst, new glass is pretty cheap on eBay - especially compared to dealer prices.

my drivers mirror glass fell out going round a roundabout , vauxhall dealer wanted £34 for a replacement , i found 1 on e-bay for £7 , just the glass , so stuck it on with silicone sealer , just the job

This just happened to me this morning too! Pulled up at some traffic lights, heard the sound of smashing glass and then noticed that my drivers-side wing mirror was now glassless! The guy at my local Vauxhall dealer says they've had several reports of this too but he was unwilling to accept that it was a design fault and wanted £60 just for the glass!

We have a Vauxhall Vectra Elite 54 reg and the same thing happened to us last week within an hour both mirrors fell out. Maybe we should question the manufactures as although out off warranty this problem is down to them!!!!!!!!

This must be a fault as both of mine have fallen out within a week of eachother. (54 reg Vectra)
Strange how it's all happening at once?!?!

Halfords have also run out of stock so i assume this is a really common problem.

My Astra just did the same thing - drivers side fell off last week and now yesterday the passenger side did the same thing - my car is 5 years old as well -wonder if this is a design fault!
