vectra 2.0 dti 2001 117.000 miles. strange noise?

hi, i have a strange (intermitant) fluttering sound from the drivers side of my engine, from cold and hot , i find if i lift off the noise goes -sometimes. my wife said it sounds like when you used to put playing cards in the spokes of your pushbike?.

thanks maurice, problem is it can make the noise when stationary, sound s like its coming from the top end .

Might be the engine undertray thats worked loose. They often can get loose if youhave driven through water or snow. Sould be able to clip back in to place or redo fixings
