Mend Renault Clio Driving

RENAULT CLIO NOT STARTING.. HELP!?

I have a renault clio which is a 'W' reg (2000) and i was driving it up a hill and when i went to put my foot down more on the accelerator, the car didnt move any faster and the car just cut out. We moved to the curb and tried starting it again and all the lights were coming on inside the car so we know it isnt a dead battery but it sounds like when you have no petrol in the car and try and make it go. But we filled it with more oil and had plenty of petrol it just dont seem to work!! Any help on this would be appriciated!!

hi leanne, have a friend to turn the engine over while you remove oil filler cap to see if cam is moving,possibly cambelt gone
