CAM SHAFT FOR vauxhall Corsa!! FOLLOW UP QUESTION ?

I POSTED EARLIER QUESTION ABOUT COST OF CRANK SHAFT FOR MY 05 CORSA. CONTACTED GARAGE FOLLOWING YOUR HELP AND ASKED IF IT WAS THE CRANK SHAFT OR THE SENSOR THAT HAD GONE AS THE CAR WAS DRIVING QUITE QUIETLY. THEY SAID THE MECHANIC HAD WRITTEN CRANK SHAFT NOT SENSOR AND IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I SAID IT WOULD THEREFORE BE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO HAVE REPAIRED, BUT COULD THEY PLEASE CHECK THE MECHANICS FINDINGS. TWO HOURS LATER THEY RANG ME TO SAY THEY WERE VERY SORRY BUT IT IS THE CAM SHAFT THAT IS BROKEN!!!! PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME ON THIS ONE. HOW MUCH SHOULD I EXPECT? IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE TO ANOTHER GARAGE FOR A SECOND OPINION? IF I HADN'T HAVE ASKED YOU FOLK FOR HELP I COULD HAVE BEEN IN REAL TROUBLE. THANK YOU SO MUCH

could they mean cam belt? cam shafts dont break, not really.
Could you give us more detail on the car, age? engine size? code? cheers.

Hi Helen, as with the crankshaft, if the camshaft was broken the engine would'nt run or it would sound like an earthquake and the car would be un-drivable, I would take it to another garage for a second opinion and don't mention what the first garage mentioned, see if any friends or workmates can recomend a reputable independant garage, there are some good ones around!
It seems the first garage is playing on you being a Female with little or nil mechanical knowledge and are looking to fleece you

if your camshaft is broken your car wont run, if your camshaft is worn then your car will run but not very well. Corsas have a bad habbit of wearing out camshafts, even more so when they have not had regular oil changes.
