Regs state it must be a mechanical joint (ie not wiped lead solder joint) If you can't use the old stop tap nuts (may be soldered instead of nuts) cut in a new tap after the old if that goes to copper. If neither is possible you will need either a Lead Loc fitting (available from merchants) or if you have the space the fastest swap is by using Philmac or Plasson variable couplers which are plastic. One fitting will cater for pipes between 15mm and 27mm using a compression grab ring. Very quick and easy to use, one end variable other end usually 20mm or 25mm mdpe but adapters can be bought to go straight on to 22mm or 15mm copper, great time savers but bulky

if the stopcock fitting is allready on the lead pipe and the other end is on the copper pipe" you get the new stopcock, that has the same size lock nut, that is comming off the lead end of the pipe. it should be half inch or 15mm, in other words use the old lock nut thats on the end of the lead pipe and dont use (one )of the new lock nuts on the new stopcock, its all ready there for you to use", turn the water off from out side your home, if this stopcock is for the mains comming into your home,,
