Mend Citroen XSARA PICASSO Clutch Engine Xsara

Is it my clutch or clutch cable that's broken?

I have a citoen xsara picasso 1.8 petrol and I cannot change gear unless the engine is off? How can I tell if it is the clutch or the clutch cable that needs fixing?

clutch pedel would drop streight to the floor if the cable is broken , sounds more like pressure plate, if you can select different gears with engine off dont suspect gearbox.

Might not be the clutch cable, could be anythink to do with the gearbox, could be the selecter fork, could be clutch plate, could be pressure plate, genraly lots of things could be wrong, my advice it to drop the gearbox out and have a look
