I presume you mean the heater matrix, it's a long job, having done mine on my Escort TDI Estate. Presuming its the same as the saloon/estate, basically you have to remove the airbag (if fitted), disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes before attempting to remove the airbag, which is held in place with 2 x 5.5mm size bolt heads through the back of the steering wheel, you need to take the top cover off the steering column to access them, stearing wheel, surrounds, the instrument panel, drop the steering shaft down, remove the dashboard complete along with any gear lever surround etc. Then you have to dissasemble the heater, the matrix slides out on one side once you have disconnected the heater hoses inside the engine compartment. Like I said a long job, took me all weekend. Would recommend you get a workshop manual, the Haines manual explains it well.
