let me re-phrase this.
i am not trying to use the machine.
the lid is locked on the bowl - it is not in the machine.
the lid will not come off the bowl.
the lid will not turn, it seems to be locked

i need to get the lid off the bowl, so i can wash it

How do you get the lid off after use ?
none of the manuals tell you.
i got the bowl/lid out of machine without breaking
and the lid is locked onto the bowl
seems to be biggest problem with this device

Have you attached the bowl and lid? There is a safety mechanism on the upright portion of the base--to make sure it won't go on when the lid is off and blades are exposed. One of the "wing" pieces of the lid has to be slid into the slit to disengage the safety and permit operation.

I just bought the same 25 year old model. There is one safety switch the bowl cover switches when placed on correctly. Other wise it will not turn on. The bowl has to be in place in order for the upper bowl to hit the switch.
