Hi Bob,
On a Bocsh alternator I took apart the regulator in the back just took off with 2 screws attached to a plastic case about 35 mm long x 20 mm while carefully making sure you don't damage the brushes. Once out basically you put 19 volts or above on one terminal ground on another and measure the output from another pin should be about 14 volts. The one I tested said 11 volts so the technician said just relace it and throw the faulty one in the bin.
