Alternator problem on Skoda Octavia?

I had a new alternator fitted < year ago and 9 months later my battery warning light came on. A subsequent check shows only 9 v going to the battery. At the time, the dealer did not change the drive belt (rather stupidly I thought at the time), he said it looked OK. It is tight enough and doesn't squeal at all. I find it hard to believe the alternator has packed in already, although it could have been a duff one despite being brand new. Could it be the voltage regulator? Any ideas?

Hi Bob,

On a Bocsh alternator I took apart the regulator in the back just took off with 2 screws attached to a plastic case about 35 mm long x 20 mm while carefully making sure you don't damage the brushes. Once out basically you put 19 volts or above on one terminal ground on another and measure the output from another pin should be about 14 volts. The one I tested said 11 volts so the technician said just relace it and throw the faulty one in the bin.
