Why does my cd player keep beeping?

I have recently sourced a xsara cd player to replace the tape player in my Citroen Xsara. When fitted by hubby the radio and cd played but was accompanied by a constant high pitched beeping. Any ideas from anyone how this can be rectified. We do have a code for the cd player.
