diesel in fuel,1996 escort 1.6i?

my son has put 5ltrs of diesel in his petrol escort injection,i have drained the tank and flushed the lines and filled the tank with petrol,fitted new spark plugs,now starts and sounds good,but as soon as the temprature comes up,it misses and stalls.
