Water in a JCB Transmission?

I have a jcb backhoe model 1400b shuttle shift and for the second time i have water in the transmission fluid. It has a milkie look to the fluid. Any ideas on how water might be getting into the transmission? Is this a common problem?

Having same issue. In my case we think water was pulled in at the top of tranny where gear kever mounts or at breather pipe. This is because the machine had worked in some deep water. Pulling the screen on side of tranny to scope the damage. Water ib the tranny for too long can cause serious dammage to torq converter etc. Hope its not the case for you or me.

had same problem with my jcb. Its the small cooler in front that cools tranny fluid, when it goes bad it leaks prestone into the trans fluid. Youll need to place the cooler. And it takes about 3 or 4 flushes to get oil flushed out so it looks clear again.

I'm having the same problem, I thought the problem was a leaking cooler unit (the tubular cooler with water running through the honey-come tubes so I swapped it for a air-cooled cooler plasti-tied if front of the radiator, doing away with the stock set-up) - still having water/oil mix problems and I think since the radiator and hyd tank are attached, there must be a leak at the solder seam?!? Good luck - let me know, mine's parked for now.

agree with jon boy that is the only place water can come into contact with transmission fluid.though i have done 2 over this winter where they have had insufficient antifreeze in the coolnt system which has caused the water to freeze in the oil cooler thus causing it to fracture internaly.also when fitting a new unit make sure it is fastened securley to stop any vibration when the machine is running.

The water is most likely to be comming from the oil cooler. this is usualy fited in the hose between the bottom of the radiator and the water pump. it will have two hydraulic hose conections and is probably cylidrical in shape.
