My Fisher and Paykel GW701 washing machine stops every 4 seconds ?

I have a Fisher and Paykel washing machine, model GW701. It starts filling then stops briefly and starts again, repeating every 4 seconds. It repeats this cycle a few times then stops completely. The 4th from the left 'wash progress' green light comes on and it beeps continously every second. All other lights are off. I tried just the cold water, then just the hot, but both acted the same. I put it on spin cycle to empty the water, which it did, but it seems when the water has been pumped out it goes into the 4 second cycle again, trying to empty, then stopping briefly, then trying to empty, etc. I don't think it startedto spin at all. I have turned the power off to the machine for extended periods but no improvement. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
