Dropped digital camera in creek water, how to fix?

Well, my friend and I were out at the railroad tracks. We were by the sewer/creek drains and my digital camera fell from the ground into the water. It took me a second to realize it but I quickly got out. I accidentally pressed the on button and it was on for a second then turned off. We immediately took the battery and memory card out and ran home. We can't tell my rents because I just got this for Christmas and I just got a talking to last night to not ruin it or I would never get another and they'd lose all respect and trust in me. Anyways, we got home, put the battery and memory card out on a clear spot on my bed, let the water drain from the camera for a minute, then opened all the "doors". We cleaned all the water and all of the camera with q-tips. We let it dry for a second. She turned it back on and it went on for a minute. It stayed on, but the screen stayed black and the lens wouldn't come out. We are opening the doors again and letting it dry. Is it ruined? Is there any other extra ways to help fix it? Should we put it in front of a fan or out in sunlight? Please help ASAP.

Unfortunately unless you can open the camera up and let it dry completely it is likely that the water inside will corrode and damage the components rendering the camera "dead".
If water got inside the lens then there is no way for it to evaporate completely and will leave a residue inside sticking the shutter together.
The quicker you can remove the water the more chance you have of saving the camera.
If water shorted the battery terminals then it is also likely that 1 or more of the fuses have blown.
If you can open the camera then DON'T TOUCH any of the componets or especially any thing to do with the flash. This will give you a shock even when the camera is switched off and the battery removed because the capacitor used for the flash holds a charge until it is used.
Find someone who can help you if you can't do it.
Also please tell your parents as it will be better now rather than later
