LG intellowasher door lock stuck?

LG intellowasher dd about 7 years old now suddenly wont let me open the door after a wash. Tried all the "usual" stuff with this machine i.e it has drained totally, the kids havent set childlock etc. Anyone got any ideas?

Yes used putty knife as instructed below and it worked :) I can use machine until replaced. Thank you ,

The above answer is right, but I couldn't get it to work with a ruler. I did it with a thin bladed knife, a putty knife actually. You insert it exactly half way down the door - you will feel the lock. Then push it hard to the right. It's on a strong spring, so needs considerable force.

hi mike, this is a fairly common problem with this washer.
the door latch mechanism has broken. you'll need to slide a long flat object, such as a ruler, inside the door rim flush with the machine to release the door latch. once the door is opened, you can take it off and replace the door latch, which is available as a spare part.
