Hi Stuart, I don't know the model in question but from what your wife reported to you it sounds like your heating element might have burned out hence the smell. Alternatively if the burning smell was more of an overheating smell it could be that your thermostat has tripped or burnt out. To move to the next stage your heating element and thermostat(s) will need to be accessed and checked. You will need an AVO meter to check the Thermostats but if your heating element has gone you should be able to see some visible signs of where it has burnt out. Please remember that before inspecting any electrical appliance ensure it has been unplugged. As for skill level only you know your capabilities.
