Bill:
I just got thru trying to take care of the problem. I bought a new handle on www.sears.com. They have the part if you type in the GE microwave number. There are pictures of parts to verify what you are buying plus a diagram too!
Once you figure out the part, it gets tricky installing it. Let me give you some direction. Go to forum.doityourself.com. Look for GE spacemaker handle repair as a topic. There are some tips there. It was helpful. I got the trim on the door off to get to the screws and replaced the handle. After I put it back together, the oven light won't go off and the microwave won't heat! There are sensors on the door latch. If they get out of alignment, the oven won't work. Be careful not to upset the latches. I'm on my way to get a new Whirlpool unit. My GE is over 5 years old and I'm done playing with it.
