vauxhall cavalier 2L M reg?

i have the same problem with a n reg cav but when i took it to the garage they said the light had to be on all the time otherwise the computer wont pick it up because its ony a att fault not a memorised one and as they have to turn the engine off to connect it to the computer it wont find the fault if the light is not on all the time from when you start the engine

the ecu is in one of the footwells behind a plastic panel...check there is no water getting in as the y are prone to it...then get it on a code reader when the light is on
