Mend Push Button Cistern Water

Can't get top off push button cistern?

There's no water in my push-button cistern. It won't fill when I push the button. I can't lift the top of the cistern to look at it because of the push button on top. Can I prise it off with a screwdriver or what?

Is it Armitage Shanks? If so:
Press and hold the small button.
Remove the large button by popping out with a screwdriver.
Pull out the small button.
Undo the large screw underneath the buttons.
Remove the button housing.
Lift off the cistern lid.
I've just done it and it is easy.

Try unscrewing the outer chrome?dial by hand, they are usually finger tight,if it starts to unscrew your in business.
