I have a '53 Clio and it seems to be overheating, what could be the issue?

I think the fan isnt kicking in to cool the engine but am not sure. I've taken it to one garage who say it might be the central management system of the car and this is very expensive to replace. Is this likely? Seems like an expensive solution to a relatively small issue.

by the way.when i say cross the terminals with a split pin or piece of wire, its the terminals in the connector that you should cross, not the switch as that will do nothing.

if the fan isnt kicking in.the first thing i would go for is the fan switch.this is the sensor that tells the fan when to kick in & cool the radiator down.the way to test this is run the car till it starts to overheat just to make sure the fan is definitly not kicking in,themn find the fan switch, pull off the connector & cross the 2 terminals with a split pin or another piece of wire.if the fan kicks in whan you do this.its definitly the fan switch. SIMPLES!
