Thermostat wiring?

Hello,
I have a faulty fridge/freezer thermostat. I 've taken off all the spade-end attached wiring clips, but one final one remains that is somehow different. It looks like a small metal tube about 2mm in diameter that goes into the thermostat itself and at the other end vanishes with all the rest of the wiring into the back of the fridge with seemingly no visible way of detaching it at the thermostat end, other than trying to open the thermostat. Is this necessary, or is there another way of doing this? Thanks for any help I can get. Peter

Thank you so much, I will try your to do it within the next few days when I buy a replacement thermostat. Will let you know the result. Thanks again. Peter

What you are looking at is the capillary tube which is part of the thermostat and the far end of it has a small bulb which sits against the cooling plate & transfers the temperature reading up to the control switch. You have to locate the far end of tube & remove it then pull the tube out with the thermostat. The new one will have the capillary tube rolled up & you have to straighten it out carefully so as not to break it.
