My Sky+ remote stopped working. Batteries changed & red light still not on?

Remote seems to have stopped completely. No red light coming on at all, even with new batteries. Any suggestions.

Turn off sky box at the plug for a minute removed batteries from remote held the select button for one minute, turned box back on at the plug,refitted the remote batteries and then press the sky button on the remote, hey presto it works.

I took out one battery and then pressed every button in turn. Put battery back, cover one. Pointed remote and it worked!!! How I don't know but it did!!!

you don't need to turn the sky box off, just point the remote at your body with no gap, it worked for me.

Turn the sky box on
Put batteries back in the remote
Press SKY and there you go fixed!!

This is the second time I've followed this advice...first time for my control,luckily I saved this page and I've just fixed my sceptical son's remote too. Turn sky box on put batteries back in remote.
Press SKY button on remote hey presto.

Was very sceptical when I came across this solution. And even thought that the replies had been faked. But this genuinely works. No red light on sky remote...fixed! Thank you very much!

p.s Don't waste your money on a new remote when you can fix it like this. Robbers at Sky!

Hi - my turn off 4 a min with batteries out didn't work either. But this one from sky website did; take one battery out of remote & press every button in turn, replace battery and press tv guide. Jobs a good un!

Sorry ... should have mentioned the method so people continue benefitting from the genius behind this:

Step 1: Turn off your SKY box
Step 2: Take out the batteries from your remote.
Step 3: Press and hold the "SET" button for 30 - 60 secs
Step 4: Turn your SKY box back on.
Step 5: Re-insert your batteries and hit the SKY button

As incredible as it seems that this could possibly work it genuinely does ... just check the feedback below mine. Good luck and ... SKY, I salute you in the traditional english two fingered fashioned!!

Well what do you know after 2days of no remote and being couch bound after an opertaion (unable to get a new one from the shop) i decided to google my broken remote and to my suprise i found this site and this amazing tip "remove batteries press and hold select button for 30sec-1min then replace" felt like uhhuh thats sooo not gonna work and low and behold i can watch my tv again totally awsome thanks

Mine stopped today 7 feb 2011, seems unlucky no 7 ..Lol.
Just do the take batteries out press select, re-insert batts and your good to go..

Seems sky updates run on the 7th of the month. by removing the batteries of the remote and pressing select, discharges any residule charge from the circuit board inside remote,thus resetting it when reebooted ( batteries put back in ) as such, similar to a pc bios battery.

Taking out the batteries, holding Select for a minute and then replacing batteries worked for me too. What a great forum. Thank you so much. (Was just about to buy a new remote!). I'm guessing a bit here but pressing Select whilst the batteries out probably drains any remaining charge held in capacitors inside the remote. A little remaining capacitance charge may be sufficient to prevent a hard reset being triggered properly when the batteries are replaced.

the answer to do sky tell customers is a big no i was on phone for an hour was told i needed new remote would cost me £25. found this site bingo now it works again and sky can kiss it as not getting my money!!! many thanks peeps

taking out the batteries and holding down the select button for 30 secs to 1 min actually worked. i used this as a last resort because my baby keeps standing on the remote and messed it up. didn't want to fish out for another remote control and can't believe that it actually worked. brilliant! saved me 20 quid. thanks a bunch.

Had the exact same symptoms!
(The actual fix is: Take out batteries, hold select down for 30 seconds, then plug batteries back in!)

Read on here to take batteries out and press select, did that and thought well that didn't work. Put batteries in and tried again and yea it worked. Thanks for that solution was just about to phone sky after messing with remote for about and hour

omg ! the removing the batterys and pressing the select button worked a treat !!!!! thankyou so much ! my remote was partly working, but only for volume and on and off. i couldnt turn channels up and down and find the tv guide with the controller. i took out the batterys and held down the select button for 1 minute (which i never believed would work) and it sorted the problem instantly !

Didnt think the removing the batteries and holding the select button for 1 minute would work as it wouldnt have any power to do anything but i thought - humour it - and it worked!!!! rubbish thing is this is the second time it has happened and been back to sky once which it clearly didnt need too. Also about 10 mins before trying this i bought one off ebay so now have a remote coming that is a waste of time. grrrrrr - stupid technology!!!!

Try it before you buy a new one - trust me!!!!

This actually worked. I did it as described and it didn't work so me and my roommate were joking ofc it didn't work and 2 seconds later it changed channel.

Unsure how it works but a great fix.

hi my sky hd remote has been acting up. tried the removig batteries etc.still nothing, i do have the red light, but when i press select nothing happens,the play button not working you have to hit rewind twice to get something to play its all over the show.

hey im 16 and im home alone and the sky remote stopped working, my mum is coming home in about 20 minutes so i needed to fix it, i went through about 10 pages all together on Google and ended up finding a result :D

This is what i did i reset the sky remote to its default setting,To perform a RESET press [TV] and then hold [select] and [red button] together for around two seconds (until the red light blinks twice). Now press 999 (red light blinks once for a long time and then twice quickly)

Now the remote didn't work with the TV at all (which is good) then i re connected the sky remote with the tv y doing the same as above but instead of 999 i typed in my TV's Code, you can find a list of codes here:

match your TV's model number and name to find the right code.
then i turned the sky box off (not to standby, make sure the sky box light is red not orange) then turned the power off through the plugs, waited a few minutes then turned it all back on and it worked again :D
i know this seems a lot to do but it fixes it :D

If the red light on your remote doesn't operate.

Suggested on another link, and it works.

Remove the batteries,
press and hold the select button for 1 minute,
refit the batteries and "Voila!"
