hi ive had a similar problem with air locks in the cooling system , is your heater cold , if so remove the top heat hose at the bulk head and fill the hose with water untill if flows out the top of the heater matrix . quickly fit the hose
im hopeing its a citroen by your user name , there is a bleed nipple on the top heater hose rev the engine at about 3000rpm and loosen the bleed nipple till water runs freely, remember to top up the water once the heaters warm

The assembly was done by me. I have done over 100 rebuilds. There is no Thermostat fitted. engine reaches 3/4 on the guage within 7 minutes. oil pressure good. hoses all tight. assuming air lock. I removed radiator plug and put in hose pipe and removed top hose. still over heating!

Have you tried it with the thermostat removed?

possible massive AIR LOCK around the pump area, purge the air out using the bleed off points in the different hoses.
giving the hoses a squeeze CAN sometimes move up the airlock to a higher point.
Keep topping the expansion bottle up to maintain a good MIN level check ALL the hoses get HOT.

Assuming you have just rebuilt it and are testing it stationary I would take it for a run.Hopefully just an air lock which will release when driven normally.THIS is assuming you have assembled it all correctly.
