Mend Honda Civic Idle Revs 3000

My Honda Civic revvs up and down since i changed the battery?

since i changed a flat battery, when my honda is idle it revs up and down - up to about 3000, and then back down to 1000, then up again. This happened previously, then after a week or so reset itself. what causes it?
