How can I fix my Gainsborough energy 2000 electric shower?

On using shower I smelt burning plastic.Immedaiately turned it off including main pole switch.On inspection found top of shower casing was showing signs of melting with the black wire from main supply to the small tank still warm. The wire must get very hot to melt the plastic - something is obviously wrong -yet the wire casing appears to be O.K. - no bare wires. Can anyone help
