My Laser by Mountfield lawnmower will not take up drive?

I have a Honda Powered Laser by Mountfield direct drive mower. The engine is running fine. When I lift the lever on the handle to engage the drive it does not engage. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so what do i need to do to fix it?
