I have had a similar problem several times over the last seven years. To fix it try removing the bar and the the small cover and the a boot shaped cover on the back to reveal the thermostat. Disconnect the round one with a coloured dot on it. This entails disconnecting two wires (pull off), and one little screw. Take a look at the back and you may notice that it is slightly concave. This bit may sound strange but try it before you dismiss it. Throw the bit onto the floor and check if it has popped out and is now convex . If not try again. Once it has popped out ,refit it in the reverse that you removed it and turn on the dryer for twenty minutes. start and leave for one minute. Then check for heat.
Hey presto this should work. This information came from a tumble dryer service engineer. To help prevent this same fault in the future remember to remove the bottom filter regularly and wash all the fluff out in the bath to stop a build up, this can cause it to overheat and this is a safety mechanism, consider it to be like a circuit breaker for the heating element.
