steering, ford fiesta, 1.3 1991?

my steering after going round a round about felt like i had a flat tyre or that something was caught in the wheel as it felt very stiff, when i drive in a straight line the steering drifts slighty even though i am trying to keep it in a staight line, i dnt feel in total control, has something come loose and needs tightening, i checked tyres and they were fine, a lad i know looked under it and said it looked fine, ie , steering rack and arms. last time on another car with a similar symtom this happened it was the steering pin after going over speed bumps, could it be that? typical when i have just lost my job!

by what you are saying it sounds like the U J or universal joint that wears out sometimes you get a lot of play and it can all so go very stiff thats what makes the steering hard i would go for that first then the steering rack as i went for the rack and found out that it was the u j as the u j is a lot cheaper than a steering rack when you get it off if you carnt move it about then it gone i hope this helps
