I have just solved this problem. It relates to the pressure switch that tells the machine there is water in the machine. Remove the back - approx 10 screws, behind the horizontal strengthing bar (held on with 4 x 10mm bolts) is a small white plastic container. Unclip this - two clips at bottom of the container, use a small screwdriver two pop them off. The container should then pull off exposing a whole into the bottom of the back of the drum. Water may run out so have a container ready to stop water from going on to the motor. Clean out the grey scum from the hole and container ensure the surfaces are clean then reassemble by pushing the container back in. Hopefully the door light will now be out when you turn back on (make sure you unplug the machine before starting). You may wish to clean the larger container where the waste water comes out - probably full of muck as well - you will need to take pipe off bottom (squeeze clip). The container comes off by gently levering the top two clips towards you whilst pushing up - the bottom two should then come out. You may be best soaking the container overnight in bicarb - it took me ages of shaking and putting boiling water in to clear. Hopefully will then work with no grey smears on washing. Should do a hot wash with nothing in the washer from time to time to help stop this.
