Predictive text on Samsung G600?

On my Predictive text - I use to be able to type a letter - ie the "no. 8 key" or the "t" key and it use to come up with the option of the other 3 letters. Also I use to type a word and the predictive text would give other suggested words. Well my phone no longer does this - how can I get this option back anyone? Holding down the "star" key doesn't do this activity ?!

just sortred it so if anyone else has the same problem, go into create message and hold the * key and it will turn the predicitive text off
