Looked all over for this answer. Same thing myself with same machine. Not an engineer but I changed the heating element and one of the thermostats myself. £40 in total. Turns out its the PCB. £90 on the net or £115 for the part and engineer to fit with a 12 month warranty for the new part. He tested the removed parts and they were fine. Could give the name of the company i used but not sure if that's allowed here.

Your description strongly suggests a problem with the heating element - an appliance engineer will easily resolve it - it may take you a little longer.
Drying will not happen if the element is broken.
