Mend Potterton Housewarmer Gas Heating Ignition

Back boiler ignition spark and gas present but won't light?

We have a potterton Housewarmer. When we try to light the back boiler the valve opens and the ignitor sparks but it just will not light the pilot. We can use a match to ignite the gas so is it just the gap between the ignition and the gas too large?
