how to fit plaster board onto uneven wall?

Hi, i have to fill a gap in my kitchen wall with plaster board, there was a range cooker there going into an old chimney stack, the board is 4 ft tall and the first 3 ft fit into the hole ok, however the chimney breast(breeze blocks) stick out alittle bit proud near the top so the plaster board at the top sticks out, do i just cut the back out of the plaster board?, or do i have to chip the breeze blocks back to fit?, any ideas????, cheers Baz.

Blockwork tends not to take too much abuse. If you start smashing the face off it you could end up dislodging the blocks, weakening the structure of the wall. I would suggest you just use sticking gear to bring the new boards out far enough to allow you to bypass the jutting blockwork. Visit http://www.nrpplastering.co.uk and email me if you require further assistance.

dont chop the blocks (no plasterer would,i am one) just stick the plasterboard to where it fits then with the drywall adhesive fill the rest of the area and level off with a straight edge (piece of timber will do) and also fill any gaps between the plasterboard and original plaster then when its all set, finishing plaster can go on top of it all.chopping at the blocks can break them too much and weaken them if your not careful.when scraping excess off with timber you havnt filled it enough put more in and scrape again.

Chop the bricks back as much as you can, then use the 'dab' method to fix the boards...this is basically a trowelful of adhesive slapped on the brickwork every foot or so, then the board is pressed into place and left to set.
