Mend Renault Clio Suddenly Not Start

I have a Renualt Clio and suddenly it does not start. ?

I used jump leads and it worked. There is a light always on which according to the book says there is an electrical fault. This may be drying up the battery. Renault dealer says it sounds like alternator overcharging. How do I check this fault?
