diplomat ad8234 won't go beyond pumping what can I do?

My diplomat AD8234 has been playing up for a while, stopping part way through the cycle. I reset it but at that point the display panel wne a bit funny and now is missing some of the LCD lines, so it is difficult to read. Nonetheless, the machine worked fine for another month or two until now. Now, once I have selected what seems to be the right programme it starts pumping, beeps and stops. Can any one help? There is no water to clean out. It happened soon after I refilled the salt. I am assuming it is not bocked as it is pumping fine.
