Mend Runs Few Off

Sport Craft tx 4.9 runs for a few seconds then shuts off ?

My Sport craft tx 4.9 runs for about 3 seconds and then stops, a 3 error code pops up. It will restart but will not continue to run.

I checked voltage and continuitfrom the speed sensor wires both checked out. Imoved the wheel with the magnet but still shuts off after 7 seconds and error 3 shows up

The part that connects to the treadmill that controls the speed wasn't plugged in tight enough

Can we just bypass or remove the magnet and defeat the speed sensor completely? I've repaired the wheel with JB weld and again with epoxy putty and it just ends up breaking again.

The most important part of the speed sensor wheel is the Magnet. You can get by with only part of the wheel secured to the axle as long as it is secured at the correct distance from the sensor with the magnet attached.
The easiest fix is to move the sensor mounted on the frame to the farthest distance away from the axle. Most sensors have adjustale slots for the screws. Next mount the speed wheel as close to the end of the axle toward the sensor as possible fixed in place with apoxy. At this point the sensor can be moved toward the wheel. This process is easier that moving the wheel. Remember though... No Magnet... No Go! Hope this helps!

To all the people mentioning the clicks in the motor... of course there is a click in the motor; it's turning off. I believe this is a safety mechanism in place to make sure that it's not just running without being able to tell the speed. If you can't tell the speed you can't tell if it's going 100mph or 0mph! That'd be bad to explain to the insurance companies!

I also hear the click in the motor area when I am having the problem. I adjusted my sensor as people above stated and now it runs without any issues. Thanks for your help.

Addendum to my previous post: Very Important!
Make sure the speed sensor wheel is properly aligned, in the center, of the two sides of the sensing element, and spin the roller a couple of times, by hand, to insure it's not hitting either side when it turns. Check this out, Before you lock it all down and let it set-up.

Re: Repairing a broken speed sensor wheel on a TX-335: Grandpa-1950, above, has a great idea that works. I modified slightly by, instead of using a large hose clamp, I drilled a small hole on each side of the breaks and tying the pieces back together with small cable ties. Before I tightened them, I used super glue on the breaks, and the bottom surface that rides on the roller. After that, I pulled it together tightly and applied the epoxy putty to both sides, as he suggested. After it all hardened, it works great. Beats having to scrap an otherwise good treadmill.

what is the round plastic piece attached to the long bar coming down from the motor and belt. it is just kind of hanging there, and it is split in half.

The sensor wheel on my TX335 cracked and became detached from the treadmill roller. Sportcraft no longer carries this wheel and basically it was scrap this machine and buy a new one. The wheel on this one was split completely through in one area and removing it from the machine was as easy as flexing it apart and threading it off of the wheel bar. Looking at this just seemed to be fixable and it was. I replaced the sensor wheel back onto the roller and aligned it inside the speed sensor. After alignment, I took a radiator hose clamp and placed it around the sensor wheel and tightened it enough to hold everything in alignment onto the belt roller. Any hardware store sells epoxy putty"I got mine from Lowes" and this is just the thing for this fix. Mold the putty into balls according to direction and pack it into the cracked areas of the wheel. I actually filled both sides of my wheel with this epoxy clay and basically built a whole new and stronger wheel. Once the epoxy hardens, according to direction, remove the hose clamp and admire your work. I used the 5 minute epoxy, but I let everything sit for 24 hours before removing the clamp and testing the machine. The putty costs about $4.00 and the wheel is sturdier than the flimsy plastic that it came with. Good luck!

I had the same error 3 code and I followed Doug's instructions and the round black thing on the pulley was crooked and too close to the sensor. Once I moved it over...problem fixed! You were a great help Doug! Your tha man! =)

Go to sportcraft.com.For E-3.it means that the spacing between your speed censor and wheel pulley isn't correct. It should be 5mm about 2 nickels width, but on the wheel pulley there should be a small magnet if not that is why it keeps happing, but if there is.You will find the speed censor under the front hood and facing your machine it shoud be to your left,it has a red and black wire running to it,2 screw's hold it in place and used for adjustment along with the plastic ring which is moveable also, and just to the right there will be a black plastic ring that stands up but is wrapped around the roller with holes thru it and a small magnet on it.that is the speed censor that needs to be 5mm apart from one another. You might half to do it a few times to get it right.got that from sportcraft.com.hope it helps you out,but that is what error 3 is.

Kristy,

It's Doug again. Here is the link to the Sportcraft web page I found this information on the TX 4.9 treadmill.

I hope it's an easy fix for you. Take care!

Kristy,

This is what I could find from sportcraft's main website page.

Error Code: E3 means:

E3 – No speed sensor reading. Unit shuts down. This is the most difficult repair diagnose. The speed sensor is connected to the frame of the treadmill near the drive pulley on the front roller. There is a small magnet on the side of the pulley wheel. The sensor tip must be no more than 5mm from the magnet. If for any reason the distance is greater than 5mm the treadmill will shutdown.

I have a TX 4.9 also and had to take it apart to see what was wrong with mine. Your speed sensor is under the cover towards the front of the treadmill (where the on/off switch is). If you take that cover off you will see the round bar the track is on. Towards the outside of that bar is a round thing that fits around that bar and it's next to a sensor mounted on the frame. They're saying if this sensor and magnet on the round thing mounted to the bar are too far apart it won't run. It slides so maybe it slid too far over. The sensor is screwed in place so maybe just the round disk thing on the bar moved over. I hope I'm not confusing you, not really good at explaining things. I hope this helps. Take care!
