The problem is often caused by the filter assembly in the sump pipe just before the pump getting blocked. This easlily clogs up but is not easy to clean out. Hotpoint do not fit an easy access pump filter to this model but they place the filter into the black rubber pipe that runs from the drum to the pump. When this clogged up the machine empties too slowly and starts to spin when too much water is left in the drum, this forces water up and out of the soap tray. There is a minor design fault as the pressure sensor is attached to the same sump pipe and even when the filter is blocked the suction from pump still drops the pressure on the sensor. So you end up with a drum that has not emptied out enough water but still goes on to spin . The result is niagra falls from the soap tray.
To rectify this you will need to pull the machine out, unplug it, remove the rear lower back panel and dismatle the black sump to pump pipe. Once this is clear you will find the machine runs fine again. Its not an easy jobs and water spills everywear but if you are a keen DIY'r you should be OK. I just cleared mine out and found coins, shirt collar inserts and a large washing instruction label in the sump pipe. Now its clear and the machine has stopped spilling water from the soap dispenser.
