renault clio has started to cough and splutter?

my clio is a 03 and has started to cough and splutter, we changed the spark plugs and it was fine for 3 days but has now started to cough and splutter again, it coughs when changing from 1st to 2nd, it starts ok. renault clio 1.6 petrol on 03 plate
