Getting parts for Cargo trucks is getting harder. Ford dealers don't support them anymore. While you will see a lot of Ford Cargo parts on ebay, you probably won't see the one you want when you need it! The other problem is that, in the past, when parts were readily available through Ford, you could just go to the parts department and tell them what item you needed. They would ask you for a chassis number and they could look it up on the parts microfiche and get the correct part number for the model you have. Many of the people selling parts on ebay are not in the motor trade and while they might have the Ford part number (FINIS number) on the packaging (assuming its the original and correct box!) they often can't tell you what model it's actually for (and sometimes are only guessing that it's for a Cargo). Therefore you are often taking a risk when buying on ebay - unless you have access to a Ford Cargo microfiche and can check the part numbers yourself.
Obviously some parts are not that critical but brake system components are and for example new brake master cylinders are difficult to obtain - the only source now is refurbished units - which are part exchange for your old one. Replacement sheet metal pressings for the cab etc are also hard to obtain new. Scrap yards are OK for certain non critical , non wear items - eg cab trim, mirror arms etc.
Horseboxes are generally very lightly loaded compared to trucks used by hauliers, utility companies, contractors etc. So they are less likely to need new springs etc. The biggest problem is likely to be lack of use. If the truck is left idle over the winter months there will be problems with batteries and things like oil seals. The lorry needs to be given a run once a week if possible - just to coat all rotating components with oil (stop seals drying out or becoming distorted) and to burn off any condensation in the engine cylinders.
