power steering pump?

My power steering has gone how do i know if it is the pump thats gone or just the pully. Its a citroen picasso 1.6 petrol disire 2 (2004)

check these first lift the bonnet
check you have sufficient fluid in reservoir
check the drive belt is correctly tensioned.(may be broke)
pulley's normally fit on a key way to prevent slippage
