Just to clarify, disconnect BOTH cables from battery, do not touch cables together while either on is connected.

ON newer cars there is a problem with this ....when I worked at a dealership we had same problem .......try disconnecting battery after about 30 seconds touch the pos and neg battery cables together ..let sit for awhile and reconnect battery ..
well it worked for us ......kills all memory and stactic in system .....
