how can i fix my renault laguna 97 2.0s rti no drive?

I have changed the n/s drive shaft but car will still not move put car in gear let out clutch speedo registers mph but car stands still it has the volvo engine and is supposed to have a jc5 704 gearbox but can't find the number tag help.
prior to this there was a knocking sound on pull away which sounded and felt like the rear engine mounting.
